Welcome to the Alvarado Public Library - the Best Deal in Town!

Your library card will enable you to borrow materials from the 21,000 items owned by the Alvarado Public Library, including books, magazines, CD's,  videos, books on tape, and music cassettes for your information and pleasure.

After signing a library/computer use agreement you may use one of the public access computers. Computers must be "checked-out" at the circulation desk. In order to use one of the computers you will be asked to show your Alvarado Public Library Card or Alvarado Public Library Computer Use Card.

When you get a library card, you are agreeing to:

  • Care for all of the materials you borrow.
  • Pay outstanding fines or fees.
  • Pay for all lost or damaged materials.
  • Tell us if your card is lost or stolen.
  • Tell us if your name, address, or phone numbers changes.
  • Confirm your address and phone numbers annually.

*TexShare Cards

Alvarado Public Library Patrons, with active memberships in good standing for at least three (3) months, are eligible for TexShare Cards.

Patrons from other libraries who have a valid TexShare Card may receive a free membership card from our library.

*TexShare is a cooperative program designed to improve library service to Texans. TexShare enables participating libraries to offer a broader range of materials and services than any single library can provide. It is a program of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.

For more information about the TexShare Program click here.

TexShare cards may be used at any participating TexShare library according to the rules of that library.
All items borrowed are the responsibility of the patron and must be returned to the lending library.
Privileges are suspended when a patron loses their "in good standing" status. In order to remain in good standing patrons are required to borrow materials at least once per month at the Alvarado Public Library and pay any and all fines or fees assessed from the Alvarado Public Library or from any other library where the patrons has used their TexShare Card.
You may be asked to present your Alvarado Public Library Card as well as your picture ID and your TexShare Card at participating libraries.
Bring your Alvarado Public Library card and valid Texas driver's license or valid Texas DMV ID, showing your name and current street address to the Alvarado Public Library so that the staff may review your patron status and determine your eligibility.

Each person should have a Library Card

Parents may not use their children’s card to borrow materials for their own use, and other family members cannot use cards issued to students from out of town.  To avoid any surprises at the check out desk we suggest that you always have your own card ready for your personal use.

Keep your Library or TexShare Card in Good Standing! Treat your Card like a Credit Card.

You are responsible for everything borrowed your card. Careless use of your card could result in fines, replacement costs, and suspension of borrowing privileges.   We strongly suggest that each person have his or her own library card for personal privacy and convenient access to library resources.  Should your card become lost or stolen, report it immediately to 817-783-7323 or to alvpubl@airmail.net

Lost or Stolen Library Cards and TexShare Cards

Remember that your Library or TexShare Card is just like a Credit Card.   You are responsible for any item borrowed on this card until it has been reported lost or stolen.  Report a lost or stolen card immediately to avoid misuse.

Replacement costs for damaged, lost or stolen Library Cards or TexShare Cards: $1.50 each the first time, $3.00 each the second time, $4.50 each the third time, etc.

New Cards for Everybody!

We are issuing new laminated bar-coded cards for every Alvarado Public Library patron, whose membership is in good standing. These cards will replace the old Alvarado Public Library cards.  This will streamline our database and ensure access for all library cardholders to electronic information resources and will allow electronic check out of materials.  You will be asked for proof of your address at that time. We ask that you cooperate with staff when it is time to replace your card.

The Alvarado Public Library has policies to make sure that all Library members receive fair and equal service.

Please enjoy your card, and use it responsibly.
