Parade Specifics
2019 Parade Date Wednesday, September 11th

 

You must decide, from the list of categories, the proper category number and category title of your entry and note this on your registration form. PLEASE NOTE - the Parade Committee reserves the right to re-assign floats within categories as appropriate.

Groups and clubs may choose one member to register for them. REGISTRATION FOR THE PARADE ENDS AT 6:00PM ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH. Parade entry forms may be delivered to the Alvarado Public Library, 210 N. Baugh St. or e-mailed to cowanl@cityofalvarado.org Please make sure to use the term Parade Entry Form in the subject heading of your e-mail.

 In order to insure receipt of prize money for winning entries you must include the name of your group (if any), a contact name, and phone number on your Parade Entry Application Form.

After your parade entry form has been approved you will be notified by either e-mail or phone. A Parade Packet containing your Parade Entry Number, your assigned Staging Area, and the Parade Route Map will be given to you on the day of the Parade at Parade Headquarters - in the triangle at E. College Ave. and N. Baugh St. in front of the Kiddie Corral Day Care Center.  (Parade parking is NOT allowed in the parking lot at the Kiddie Corral Day Care Center.  NO ONE may use the Johnson County Sub-Courthouse Parking Lot as a Prep or Staging area for floats or other parade entries.)

 

 Parade Rules

  1. All participants must check-in at Parade Headquarters on the day of the parade, between 4:00 and 5:30pm, to pick-up their entry numbers and confirm their assigned Parade Position and Staging Area.

  2. Starting time of the Parade is exactly 6:00pm.

  3. All participants must display their Parade Entry Number on the front windshield of their vehicle, or their float’s towing vehicle. Horse riders, bicycle riders, and pet walkers should have their Parade Entry Number on the back of their shirt or blouse. Everyone must be in position at their assigned Staging Area by 5:45pm.

  4. Favors, such as candy, gum, or any other items may be thrown from, or by, any entry or participant during the parade but must be thrown into the crowd on the sidewalk. Please take care NOT to entice anyone to enter the street to catch what's being thrown.

  5. A float is a low, flat vehicle self-propelled or in tow by any source with sufficient power and speed to maintain its place in the Parade. The towing source is not a part of the float. Children's wagons are not floats.

  6. Awards will be presented inside the Reunion Pavilion as soon as possible after the Parade is over.

  7. A special note: units involving horses will be required provide necessary health certification required by the state.

  8. Parade parking is NOT allowed in the lot at the Kiddie Corral Day Care Center on N. Baugh St.

  9. End of the Parade - Follow the signs directing you to enter the JCPOSR parking lot.  Please be aware that the Parade Judges will be walking around in the JCPOSR parking lot judging the Parade Entries. No one may leave the Parking Lot until the Police Department opens the back gate to the Parking Lot opening out onto Glenwood Ave.

It is highly recommended that decorated floats, cars, trucks/and or entrants in costumes demonstrate a theme.
